Cala de caballo

Es la primera suerte de la charreada también denominada como la suerte del silencio. Se denomina suerte del silencio porque cuando se esta calando un caballo debe de estar el caballo y jinete en plena concentración y deben ser un binomio perfecto y por lo tanto no debe acompañarse por la tonada de una banda o de un mariachi.

Para realizar la cala de caballo, los competidores, se presentarán ante los jueces para revisión de frenos, riendas y estribo, momentos antes de iniciar la charreada en el orden que les corresponda, revisión que se llevará a cabo en el área del rectángulo.

Una vez que los jueces autoricen al competidor a iniciar su cala, éste se presentará en el rectángulo, saludará al público, dará medio lado y se dirigirá a galope rumbo al partidero, al llegar a la distancia cero del lienzo, volteará su caballo para ponerlo de frente al ruedo disponiendo hasta de un minuto para arrancar su cabalgadura. Sobre parado, podrá arrancar al paso o a galope hasta la distancia entre los 10 y 15 metros donde deberá imprimir mayor velocidad desarrollando toda la carrera de su cabalgadura hasta ejecutar la punta.

Después, sin voltear el caballo, se pasará a rectángulo izquierdo y lo hará girar dando tres o más lados hacia la derecha o hacia la izquierda, y si se desplazara, al terminar en un sentido, lo regresará al centro para continuar con los lados contrarios. 

Al término de los lados, nuevamente se tomará el centro y de sobre parado dará los medios lados, hasta en dos tiempos completando los 180 grados, para poder obtener sus puntos adicionales a la derecha y después a la izquierda o viceversa, siendo obligatorio hacerlo hacia ambos sentidos, y no serán considerados si no se completan los 180 grados.

Terminada ésta prueba, pasará al rectángulo central y cejará su caballo en línea recta para no ser infraccionado rumbo al partidero, debiendo cruzar con los cuartos delanteros la distancia de los 50 metros marcada en la manga del lienzo y regresará al paso natural hasta el rectángulo, donde saludará al estilo charro dando por terminada la cala de caballo.
